Washed cyanotype prints with braille text

A Kind of Absent explores the boundaries between presence and absence, clearness and blurriness in perception, focusing on how sensory information-or the lack of it-shapes awareness.
Nine cyanotype prints each intentionally blurred, are paired with braille text that clearly describes the content of the images. This reversal creates a unique experience: visually impaired viewers by using braille, may access clearer information than sighted viewers relying only on visual cues. Sound, created by layering field recordings from each photo‘s location, adds an immersive dimension. It simulates how visually impaired people perceive their surroundings, a blend of raw, unfiltered sound. This work challenges conventional hierarchies of sensory access and invites reflection on the internal perception and how the absence of information can create unseen barriers.
