Vague is a poetic expression of the suspended state of memory. Like a blurred photograph, memory exists in a fluid state between clarity and obscurity.
This work explores the uncertainty of memory, reflecting the powerlessness humans feel in controlling how the past is remembered or forgotten. Forgetting is a double-edged sword; it brings both pain and healing. It can soften painful memories, making them more bearable and acceptable, and this duality of memory is the core of the work. Vague memories are buried beneath layers of time, and they may resurface at some point or fade away entirely. Freezing blurred photographs in ice symbolises humanity's attempt to obscure and suppress painful memories, much like an intentional separation from trauma.

This edited version compresses 85 minutes of footage into a concise 10 minutes timeline, preserving its emotional and narrative core. As the ice gradually melts, the blurred photographs begin to emerge, revealing the fragility and fluidity of memory. This process is unpredictable—just like the memories of Alzheimer's patients—allowing those fleeting memories to be extended in time within this space. Whatever their final form, they continue to linger, influencing our past and future. "What Remains" aims to immerse viewers in a space where time and memory intersect, encouraging personal reflection on how memories are preserved, altered, or forgotten, and raising awareness for those affected by Alzheimer's disease.
